When I am typing a name that has an accent " ' " over a letter, where can I

For occasional characters, you can use insert symbol.

If you do much typing in a foreign language such as Spanish, to make this
easier you really need a Spanish keyboard, however you can setup a Spanish
keyboard in Windows and use the on-screen keyboard to indicate the special
key positions.

You don't mention which version of Word, but unless something has changed
you can take a look at the "Keyboard shortcuts for International Characters"
topic in Word Help. Such characters as ñ, é, ¿ are readily available.

You could change your keyboard layout to US International. Then it's
easy to just type the accents.
