Default INCLUDEPICTURE links keep resetting

Help! I've included a large number of JPEGs in a Word document, which I've
embedded and linked using the Insert Picture From File option. This
produces the INCLUDEPICTURE field. The links don't update properly, so
according to the Help files, you can insert your own path, using double
backslashes instead of single ones. However, these new links that I make
only work while the document is open -- once I close and re-open, the links
reset to the default format, something like:

INCLUDEPICTURE "Visio%20JPEGs/Enrollment%20server%20login%20process.jpg" \*
MERGEFORMAT

Is there anything I can do to make the field retain the path I manually enter?
Thanks for the help.

Here's some additional information that might help. I've been using the full
path in the link in the following format and it kept getting replaced as
described:

C:\\Documents and Settings\\Tech Writer\\Desktop\\New Biobex Docs\\Visio
JPEGs\\Biometric profile example.jpg

Then I tried using a triple backslash at the beginning instead, and it seems
to work better. But is this the real solution?

\\\Documents and Settings\\Tech Writer\\Desktop\\New Biobex Docs\\Visio
JPEGs\\Biometric profile example.jpg

1. Try unchecking Word Tools|Options|General|Web options|Files|Update links
on save. It should help on your machine at least.

2. Try "single" (i.e. not "doubled-up") forward slashes instead of
backslashes.

Thanks, Peter, that definitely did the trick. It's funny how those
instructions are nowhere to be found in the Word help files or in the
Knowledge Base....

Specifically, I should have mentioned that #2 worked. I didn't even try #1.
Thanks.
