Default why are so many tool bar icons inactive?

I just installed Office 2000 Professional on a new hard drive in this
machine. Most of the tool bar icons are visible in word but inoperable. I am
unable to create a "New File" and cannot therefore access any of the wizzards.

Sounds like you did not activate your Office software. In Word, click
on Help | Activate Product.
