Default Word count

Any way of automatically seeing the Word Count - I have a vague memory of a
word count in the Status Bar in the past or maybe I am day dreaming.

OK, I have copied the Word Count Statistics window and the Recount button
from the Word Count toolbar into the menu bar but I wondered if there was a
neater way, since there is plenty of space along the Status Bar

The word count may be added to the status bar in Word 2007. This is not
possible in previous versions.
