Default how can i insert text into a doc without reformatting

I have a questionnaire form and would like people to type answers within the
document, but don't want to have to 'tidy up' the document each time an
answer is inserted eg

I work in (type name of ward here) Ward.

So when they type in the name of the ward, the brackets and text disappear
and you are left with the answer without the need to delete any spaces etc?
Hope this is clear

Kevin,
Have a look here, especially under the subtitle:
