Default files stuck in trial version

Okay, new laptop with Vista -- trial version of Office included. My previous
Word documents (XP student and teacher edition) were moved to this computer
and now are Office 2007 documents. I can't edit them or save them as any
other type of document. This computer has WORKS for word processing and I
would use it if I could. How do I recover my files? Tried downloading the
compatibility program, but didn't work.

You are going to have to take those files to another computer that either
has Word 2007 or has the compatibility pack downloaded.
