In Word Options Customise can one still edit icons as was possible in
previous MS Word versions? I have discovered that I need to use commands frequiently (in the quick access toolbar) which look exactly the same. I find this confusing and time-wasting. Also, is it possible for one to create more tabs in the ribbon? or add more commands in a tab? In Office XP and 2003 I used the Tools Templates and Customise command quite extensively in order to gain time. In 2007, I am still exploring how I can exploit the equivalent of these two most useful tools. -- Paul Gauci |

The icons for built-in commands are not changeable, and there is no icon editor as there was in previous versions. IMHO, this stinks. However, you can choose from a gallery of 181 icons for the button of a macro. This leads to the (stupid!) workaround that you can write a macro that just issues a built-in command, and then you can put that macro on the toolbar with one of the icons from the gallery. It still isn't as good as being able to recolor or redraw an icon or make one from scratch, but it's better than nothing. It is possible to add tabs to the ribbon, and you can also add new groups to existing tabs (the built-in groups can't be changed). There are a couple of utilities, reviewed at http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...mizeRibbon.htm, that make that job easier. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |

![]() Jay Thanks a lot for your advice. I agree with you that it is most unfortunate that the edit-icons capability has not been retained. It was such an excellent simple-yet-very-time-saving devise. Thanks a lot Jay
I visited http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...mizeRibbon.htm and bought the Ribbon Cutomiser add-in that they advice users to invest in. It looks good - but I still think that MS Word 2007 should have improved on what used to be efficient time-saving features in MS Word. -- Paul Gauci "Jay Freedman" wrote: On Sat, 17 Nov 2007 10:28:00 -0800, Paul Gauci wrote: In Word Options Customise can one still edit icons as was possible in previous MS Word versions?
