Default Word 2007

I hate it when Word automatically adds an extra space between new paragraphs.
I can turn that function off, but it does not permanently stay off. How can I
permanently turn off this function?

Default Word 2007

On the Format Paragraph dialog, set Spacing before and after to 0, then click
the Default button and confirm changes to the NORMAL template.
