If you supply some descriptive detail on the matter - including version of
Word - I'm certain someone will be glad to try:-)

Although the version information is important I still have no idea what you
mean by "automated document" or "compile some more files". There are any
number of factors that affect file size of Word docs, but that terminolgy
doesn't associate clearly with any of them.

Please provide an explicit description of exactly what you are doing & how
you are doing it. Those reading your posts can only go by what you describe.

Default Reducing the size of the file

Hi,

i am creating a template with lots of formfield which includes some
parameter or functions in it which will help me to retrieve the details which
i need from my database.
when i create a template its size would be about 650 KB and i have 60
templates with me as same as i stated above. when i compile all these 60
templates in one file the size of the template becomes 80 to 90 MB. is their
a solution to any how i could reduce the size of the template after i compile.

From Internet i have got an alternative method to reduce the file size but
it dosen't work the steps are given below for your reference.

For those of you who paste a lot of graphics files into your Word XP (Word
2002) documents, have you ever noticed how big those Word document files get?
We work with a lot of Word docs containing tons of graphics and they get
really big. Heres a tip that will shrink those Word docs down ten-fold!
(thanks to Ronald Beekalar for this great tip):

1. Open the Word document and save it with a different name (this is so that
you have the original copy of the document just in case something goes
haywire).
2. With the Word document open, click the Edit menu and then click Select All.
3. Now that the entire document is selected, Hold down the CTRL key. With
the CTRL key held down, hold down the SHIFT key. With the SHIFT key and the
CTRL key held down, press the F9 key (this is the CTRL+SHIFT+F9 keyboard
combination).
4. Save the document. Compare the size of the new document with the size of
the old one. We think youll be pleasantly surprised!

When i follow these steps my formfield dissapears from the templates.
Please help me out regarding the reducing the siz of the templates.

Thanks and Regards

Default Reducing the size of the file

I'm afraid I'm still totally unclear on the problem - perhaps terminology is
a part the issue so let's start the

A *template* (*.dot, from File Save As - Document Template) is a file on
which new documents are based. When you generate a new document (*.doc)
based on a template there should be no effect on the size of the template
that created the file.

The word "compile" as used here is very confusing. Exactly what do you mean
by "compile all these 60 templates in one file"?

Your use of "form fields" (Text Form Fields from the Forms Toolbar?) is also
curious, as they are intended for content to be entered by the user. From
your description it sounds like you're trying to force them to retrieve data
from a record source. If that's the case it seems you'd be better off using
MERGEFIELDS instead. Otherwise, I'm really not sure what "includes some
parameter or functions in it which will help me to retrieve the details
which i need from my database" means.

The keystroke Control+Shift+F9 breaks the links in a file & would be used
*after* the fields [in a .doc produced from a template, perhaps] are updated
to retain the retrieved data & sever its connection to the source. If you
use that keystroke in the template itself you're basically turning empty
fields into literally empty spaces.
