Default Forms toolbar

I have a form that was originally created in Word 97. I have used it in Word
2003 and have now upgraded to Word 2007. Up through the 2003 version, when I
worked on the form, the forms toolbar would pop up. I the 2007 version, I
found the forms 'toolbar' (by following directions from another
question/answer in the discussion group dated 4/15/07, thank you). However,
the toolbar is grayed out. I cannot use it. Do you know why? Do I need to
save it in another format other than .docx? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

The file format should make no difference. Did you remember to *unprotect*
the document before trying to edit it?

Yes, I verified. Went to Developer tab and Protect Document. There is
unrestricted access. Do I need to do something somewhere else? And as I
look at it again, I notice that all of the toolbars are grayed out except
for a few options.

Thank you.

Default Forms toolbar

Unrestricted access there does not mean that the form is unprotected. Select
'Restrict Formatting and Editing' and then from the task pane 'Stop
Protection'.

There are no 'toolbars' in Word 2007. The forms tools are on the Developer
Toolbar and the form fields you are familiar with are amongst the legacy
tools. However they will be greyed out if the form is protected. You must
unprotect the form to make the tools available (add the protect document
command to the QAT to toggle protection - or see
http://www.gmayor.com/Toolbars_in_word_2007.htm )
