Where did Microsoft hide the Count Characters option?
I can see the number of words in a selection, but I'm using an application
that restricts the number of characters. That was an easy-to-find & use feature in previous versions of MS Word. Where is it in MS Word 2007? |

At my screen resolution it has a label - easier to find that way! :-)
Microsoft doesn't plug this enough, but they have an interactive '03 to '07 guide that lets you click the old way so they can show you the new way. It really helped when I first had to start using '07! http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...744321033.aspx to use it online and http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en to download it so you don't have to be online... and they have them for most of the Office products. Where did Microsoft hide the Count Characters option?
Along with Review tab, as BoniM noted, also take a look at your Status Bar.
You should see the live count of Words in your document and clicking it will display the Word Count dialog box. If you don't see Words: # in your Status Bar, right-click the Status Bar and then click Word Count to add it. Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. The Live Count will display the number of words (or selected words) in the
document but clicking the command will display the Word Count dialog box which, as I'm sure you know, provides the character count. It's faster to access the dialog box using the Status Bar than switching to the Review tab. Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Is there any way to determine what position I am in from the left column (ie.
character 25) - other than selecting the characters on the line and pressing the word count? As Beth said, right-click the status bar at the bottom of the Word window. A
menu will list all the things that can be displayed on the status bar, although most of them are turned off by default. Hi Beth,
I'm hoping you can help me. I used to be able to see the number of words that I've highlighted in my document by 100/2509, for example, in the status bar. However, for some reason, now when I highlight a selection of words, there is no automatic note of the number of words on the status bar. I now have to click on the word count feature on the status bar to get a word count of my selection. Is there any way I can "turn on" the automatic feature again, rather than having to click on word count? contents that must have dots between the heading and the page number. Word counts the line of periods for each heading as a word. I have only so many words to use on these briefs so each one counted against me hurts!! Thanks! Are you using periods to get the lines of periods or are use setting the tab
leader? With the tab leader, at most, the line of periods would be counted as one word, however a simple test that I just performed indicates that the lines of peiods that result from setting the tab leader do not get included in the word count. -- Hope this helps.
