Default text is jumping around when optical mouse is plugged in..

Hi

Iv recently tried 2 differnt types of mouse (both optical) but they don't
seem to work properley on my laptop (compaq presario). When working in the
Sage software package the text I type will suddenly disapeer from where I am
typing and re-apear at the top of the screen.. This also happens in Works.

It works fine when I use the touch pad and disconnect the mouse.. Any ideas
please? Im going mad.

Possibly the mouse or its connection is faulty, or you're using it on a
surface that the mouse doesn't like -- glass and highly reflective surfaces
don't work with opticals, and some surface colours are a problem.

Or are you perhaps unconsciously brushing the mousepad with your other hand?

Thanks.

Since posting this mail the text is also jumping around when using the touch
pad now.. Dont think its the surface as Im using the mouse on a mouse pad,
and it cant be the mouse as it works fine on my PC.

Any other ideas?

Absolutely a driver issue... download the latest and greatest to try out, but
there's no guarantee it will resolve the issue.

My Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer will ocassionally make the mouse jump to
the edge of the screen... a few shakes will get it back. Before I updated to
the latest driver, it would also make multiple pages of text jump up and
down, as if I was spinning the wheel really fast... THAT one was annoying,
but the latest release fixed it. Still no solution for the pointer suddenly
taking off on me, though.

I'm considering dumping it for another piece of hardware...
