Why does Word 2007 hyperlink to Acrobat 5 PDF open [Embedded File.
1. What I want to do: For classes, I create study outlines in Word 2007,
inserting hyperlinks to readings that I have saved on my notebook as Adobe Acrobat 5 PDFs. I do that because I sometimes need to refer to the readings quickly, as in class or during my reviews for exams. As I read, I sometimes highlight passages, insert bookmarks, or make notes. When I am finished reading, I want to be able to save those changes to the original linked PDF. 2. What actually happens: When I click on the hyperlink I have inserted in my outline, the target PDF opens in Adobe Acrobat 5, but where the title should appear, I see [Embedded File]. If I make changes, save, and close the [Embedded File], then click on the hyperlink again, the PDF opens, but the changes have not been saved. 3. How I can work around the problem: I can "Save as," giving the PDF a different name; of course, once I have done that, the hyperlink will not open the updated PDF, but the original as it existed when I created the hyperlink. 4. Where I have looked for answers: I have looked through the Acrobat help file, which has nothing about this problem. At any rate, this seems to be a Word, rather than an Acrobat, phenomenon, because this only happens when I view the PDF via a link in a Word file. Searches in Microsoft Help with variations of the above subject have not produced any answers, so I turn to my fellow Word users for suggestions and advice. |
