Symbol menu
I'd like to create a new menu with just the symbols I use frequently. I can
create the new menu, but cannot figure out how to drag or import symbols onto the menu. Any help would be most appreciate. |

Hi WSammons
I frequently produce menus like this, and I use AutoTexts to do it. If there's a better way, I'm sure someone will come along and explain it. Here are the details. First, decide where you want to store this stuff. For safety's sake, I wouldn't store it in normal.dot. So, File New. If you have 2002 or 2003, in the New Document pane, choose On My Computer. In the Templates dialog, in the Create New section, choose Template and click OK. Now, work out where to save this file. If you would like it to appear every time you open Word, then do Tools Options File Locations. Note down what Word lists as the Startup folder. Exit out of the Tools Options dialog, and then use File Save to save the file to the startup folder that you noted. Use Tools Customize, make sure the Save In box is set to your new template, and create a new toolbar with a menu, or add a new menu to an existing toolbar. Now to get to business. Use Insert Symbol to insert the symbol of interest. Display non-printing characters by clicking the ¶ button on the toolbar. Select your symbol *without* selecting the paragraph mark (¶). Use Insert AutoText. Make sure the Look In box refers to your new template. Give the AutoText a useful name (eg Tick, Cross, Sigma). Tools Customize. On the Commands tab, in the Categories list, choose AutoText. In the Commands list, choose your AutoText and drag it to your menu. Delete all the symbols you inserted in the body of the template (so it looks like page), and save it again. If you saved it in the Startup folder, it will load every time you start Word. Hope this helps. Shauna Kelly. Microsoft MVP. http://www.shaunakelly.com/word "WSammons" wrote in message ... I'd like to create a new menu with just the symbols I use frequently.
