The lucregate.com is a RIP OFF! Don't bother wasting your $2.95, the template was not aligned properly and is unable to be unlocked to move the fields..
Follow the directions left here for doing text boxes in the word doc...that took a bit of time (had to scan the actual 1099 form and use it as a guide, then delete it from background. But...hey, at least it worked and is FREE! I'll try to get my $ back, but based on a couple other comments here, I doubt Lucre gate is the "refunding" type.

I just used this website. I made 2 1099 misc forms. It is completely free you just have to make an account or sign in with google or facebook and when your done you just print.

I paid the $3 to get the word template. It was a mistake because the forms don't line up for the 2nd form on the IRS page, you can't adjust it in anyway on the form and you can only do 2 adjustments at a time before you have to start over again. That also means instead of one word document with all the corrections in one place, you have to save however many versions of it...

I am correcting the previous AP department's mistakes - all 182 of them so this is not efficient. Dang it! I was hoping this would save me from the typewriter but apparently not.

folks,,, after reading all of the above I just went into my excel and formatted it to the best of my initial ability... printed it and then adjusted the columns and rows. Viola it worked. I printed the 1099's in a matter of 30 minutes. less time than reading all these post.

IN ADDITION, i realized that when you read the help text in the quickbooks system it tells you how to 'add' a vendor to text the system thus validating that the vendors will show up on the 1099 report. WELL that is a big WINK WINK... go do the expense add for the vendor for the total and it will show up to print. ALSO make sure that you put it to an expense account NOT a sub account on the P&L.
