Default auto table of contents

I have never used this feature before and don't even know if it exists...a
client was asking someone here, if she could set up an auto table of contents
on a PC? Basically what she wants to do is type along and every time she
finished typing a page it would automatically be added to her table of
contents.

I have never heard of or used this automated technique before...do you know
anything about it? Is it a template? Do you have to create a style sheet?

I know this type of program is available in InDesign...but MS Word?

Not quite that automatic, she'll need to right-click on the TOC and ask to
update it. See http://addbalance.com/usersguide/complex_documents.htm.
