Default New Word Docs (Office 2000)

When opening Word the new document already has words on it (gobbildygook).
I can not find where the original Normal Doc Template is to modify it.
It has been driving me mad for over 12 months

Normal.dot is a hidden file. Start Word, click on Tools |
Options | File Locations, and note the folder designated for user
templates. That is where the Normal.dot file is located. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...ocNotBlank.htm for more
information.

You're astonishingly patient if you've let it bug you for 12 months.

1. Start up Windows Explorer. Go to Tools Folder options. On the View tab,
select show 'Hidden Files and Folders'

2. Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\[User]\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates ([User] is the name you use to login)

3. Open normal.dot. Don't just double-click -- that will create a new
document based on the template.

4. Edit and fix.
