Default Rearranging Text within a Document

Some reports I'm asked to update have figures (pictures, circle & arrows,
captions, etc.) that are referred in the body of the report. If you a reader
of the report wants to what one of the figures looks like up close, a link is
used to connect the reader to an Intranet site.

The report will contain a list of figures and a relevant caption (usually,
but not always, the same caption is used for both). What I would like to
know is if it is possible to link the Figure numbers such that if I shuffle
the order of the Figures, the corresponding Figure Number is automatically
corrected, along with the reference to that figure in the body of the text.
For example, I might have a paragraph that references Figures 4, 5 & 6,
followed by a paragraph that references Figures 7 & 8. If I decide to switch
those paragraphs for clarity, I have to go in manually and renumber the
figure references and the Figure Captions. I can deal with physically
re-ordering the Figures, but getting the number to sync up is sometimes not
done correctly.

Thanks in advance.
