Default Styles in use, in new document?

Though I attached a styles-filled .dot file, in a new document how can I get
the styles in the sidebar? I created a style Lesson, used it in a doc, now
opening a new file this style is not visible. If I try to recreate Lesson, it
says it exists, so I create Leesson, for next doc again this is not shown. As
suggested on an MVP site, I have disabled the track style option in Tools,
Options, Edit. What to do?

2003 - before you attach or after you attach the styles you must go to Menu
Tools
Tempaltes and Add-ins
Check "Automatically Update styles"

Save the document (just to be safe)- then go to Menu

Tools
Templates and Add-ins
Uncheck "Automatically Update Styles"

Save your document and all will be heavenly.
