The only way I can add to my AutoText entries is to literally open
Normal.dot, add the entry, then save Normal.dot. Otherwise, I can add the entry but it only lasts until I close down Word. When I reopen Word, the entries aren't there again. I used to be able to add the AutoText and it would update and stay. Help. Thanks, |

It sounds as if something is resetting Normal.dot to the default on startup.
Are you on a corporate network? If not, are you sure you don't have more than one Normal.dot and possibly modified the wrong one? -- Suzanne S. I have deleted all other references to Normal.dot on my C drive. I have
access to a corporate network but Word and my files are on my computer, not the network. I have tried renaming normal.dot then opening up Word. When I do that, there are no AutoText entries and my document resets the margins and font to the default Word normal.dot, so I'm fairly sure the one I use with my AutoText entries is the right one because when I rename mine back to normal.dot, my settings are there again. I just can't figure it. Thank you for your assistance. Anything else I can try? "Suzanne S. Barnhill" wrote: It sounds as if something is resetting Normal.dot to the default on startup. Is Adobe Acrobat 7.0 installed on the computer? If yes, then the
Acrobat 7.0 Create Adobe PDF toolbar add-in for Word prevents Word from automatically saving changes to the normal.dot template (which is where toolbar customizations are stored). See http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowled....cfm?id=331259 for several solutions to the problem. leeper wrote: I have deleted all other references to Normal.dot on my C drive. But Adobe wouldn't explain why the entries aren't saved even when leeper
opens Normal.dot and saves them directly there. It sounds a lot more like a startup script resetting Normal.dot. -- Suzanne S. I think leeper says the autotext entries *are* saved when entered
directly into normal.dot. Suzanne S. Barnhill wrote: But Adobe wouldn't explain why the entries aren't saved even when leeper opens Normal.dot and saves them directly there. It sounds a lot more like a startup script resetting Normal.dot. |
