Hi Eric,

Assuming you're using the same style definitions in either case check the setting in the Word Options
Office Button=Word Options=Advanced=Display
for 'Optimize character positioning for layout rather than readability' to see if that makes a difference.

In that same dialog, you may also want to scroll to the bottom of the advanced group and see if changing the compatibility option to
be Word 2003 makes a difference.

It's amazing that I finally figured out what was causing this nightmare.
Anybody have any idea how to correct this issue? I have Word 2007. If I save
it as a .doc (which it originally was) everything is fine. If I save it as a
..docx it gets longer.

How stupid is this? What a waste of time. (OK I am a bit frustrated.)
