Set Defaults "No double spacing"

In the Styles pane (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S), click the Manage Styles button (at the bottom--it's the one on the right of three buttons); in the Manage Styles dialog box, click the Set Defaults tab. Under "Paragraph Spacing," set "Before" and "After" to zero, change "Line spacing" to "Single." Click "New documents based on this template," and click OK.
