Another possibility €“ the problem could be the type of section break:
Turn on non-printing characters (Ctrl+Shift+8). Check the section break you inserted. Is it of the type €śSection Break (Odd Page)€ť. If that is the case, click somewhere in section 2 (the one that starts with page number 1), then open the Page Setup dialog box. On the Layout tab, select €śNew page€ť instead of €śOdd page€ť in the €śSection start€ť field and make sure that €śApply to€ť is set to €śThis section€ť. Click OK. The empty page should then be removed. Remember that you need to update the TOC and any other fields that refer to page numbers. -- Regards Lene Fredborg - Microsoft MVP (Word) DocTools - Denmark www.thedoctools.com Document automation - add-ins, macros and templates for Microsoft Word "beckysmomma" wrote: Lene: Thanks for your reply. I checked and the 'different odd and even' is NOT turned on. I agree, that would make sense if it was. Any other ideas? "Lene Fredborg" wrote: Do you have Page Setup Layout tab €śDifferent odd and even€ť turned on? In that case, it explains the empty page. Word knows that 1 is an odd number and that odd numbers must be on odd pages. Therefore, Word inserts a blank page because 1 would else end on an even page. The blank page can be seen in Print Preview. If you want to keep the i, ii, etc. and get rid of the blank page, you must either turn off €śDifferent odd and even€ť or you must make changes to the content so that the pages before page 1 make up an even number. Note that turning off €śDifferent odd and even€ť will affect the margins, headers and footers if they have been set up differently for odd and even pages. -- Regards Lene Fredborg - Microsoft MVP (Word) DocTools - Denmark www.thedoctools.com Document automation - add-ins, macros and templates for Microsoft Word "beckysmomma" wrote: HELP: Using Word 2007 creating a book, with table of contents, prologues, etc. FINALLY got i, ii, etc. to show in beginning, and 1, 2, 3 to start on page 1. When I saved the document as a PDF to take to a print shop, I looked it over and there is a BLANK page (which didn't show in Word) between pages 5 and 7 where I have changed from i to 1 in page numbers. I can't figure out how to remove section breaks once they are inserted to get back to plain old normal....although I love the sections with i, ii, iii it's not worth having a blank page inserted. Any ideas how to get rid of my blank page? I do not see a page break when I have my show/hide paragraph marks on. I am deeply frustrated and want DONE with this project. Thanks, |
