I recently got a new laptop, and I found out it didn't have microsoft Word on
it. Can the wordpad do the same things Word can, or do I need to find a
download somewhere? are there free downloads of microsoft word?

WordPad is a stripped down version. If you want Word and all it's fun/fancy
features, you need to buy it. It's not free - which is why it wasn't on your
new computer. Get Works Suite 2006 for the best bang for your buck.

OpenOffice is free and is pretty much as good.
