Default language problem..
Hello,
We have this nice problem, maybe you can help us out. We use terminal servers to connect to via RDP. Windows 2003 installed on the servers. Office 2003 SP1 Installed on the servers. Default language on servers: English. Alternate language: Arabic Installed languages: Arabic with keyboard Arabic & English (US) with keyboard US When opening word and I set Arabic as the default language in Word then I am able to use formatting like bold and italic and such on the Arabic text. Then i use ALT+SHIFT to change language, which works fine. I am able to use formatting again. Then I switch back to Arabic and am able to type Arabic, but formatting is not possible anymore. Italic and Bold and such are not available anymore. Then first I have to open the language box in Word, select Arabic, make it default again and close the box. After this I can use formatting again unless I switch back to english and have to start the procedure all over again. So it seems that English formatting always works. We really don't know how to solve this issue it seems that the default language is not retained. Maybe one of you pro's can help us out here? Regards, John |

Default language problem..
Hi John,
I've no experience with RTLs, such as Arabic. You might want to try asking this in the word.international.features newsgroup (also on this server). In the meantime, the only alternative I can suggest you try would be to work with styles, rather than relying on the keyboard changing the language formatting. Are you at all familiar with the concept of a Word style? We use terminal servers to connect to via RDP. Windows 2003 installed on the servers. Office 2003 SP1 Installed on the servers. Default language problem..
Hi,
I am happy to tell you that we found the problem! We had a policy enabled : Microsoft Office 2003/Language settings/Enabled Languages/Show controls and enable editing forshow. In this policy we hadn't enabled the Arabic Language. We enabled it and the "Complex Scripts" tab appeared in Word for the users; they were also able to use Arabic formatting now as it was used to be. Anyway, thanks for thinking with me, Cheers! |
