Word will not ask for a save when I close it
I am running MS Word 2003 11.5604
Here is the error I am having and how to recreate the error.. 1. Create a new document in MS word 2. Type anything in "test test" 3. Close word It will not prompt for me to save at all. I've done extensive research on this and have not been able to come up with anything. I've read up quite a bit on modifying normal.dot but it did not seem to do the trick and that to me seemed more so user specific where this is a computer wide issue. Any input would be greatly appreciated. |

Do you happen to have an early version of Acrobat 7's add-in for Office
installed? If so update it. Otherwise work through the troubleshooting tips at http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm then http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...artingWord.htm. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org king123 wrote: I am running MS Word 2003 11.5604 Here is the error I am having and how to recreate the error.. 1. Word will not ask for a save when I close it
I do want to note that word is not actually "crashing" per say. It is more
of an issue that it is not doing something that it is supposed to do. In terms of the Acrobat add-in for Office I don't see anything. I checked in add/remove programs and nothing was listed there. The only items I saw for Adobe were.. Adobe Acrobat 5.0 Adobe Download manager Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 Starter Edition Adobe Reader 7.0 Adobe Shockwave player Should I be upgrading to the most recent versions of Adobe? I don't see anything in there that has anything to do with a specifi Add-in for Office. |

Don't confuse the URL filename of a web page with its content. The links
list the initial problem solving steps that should be undertaken. If you have the add-in for Acrobat 5 installed, it will have put Acrobat icons on the Word toolbar and will be listed in Tools Templates and Add-ins. The add-in takes the form of a template - see http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adob...at_toolbar.htm for background. The latest update for Acrobat 5 is at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...jsp?ftpID=1309. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org king123 wrote: I do want to note that word is not actually "crashing" per say. Word will not ask for a save when I close it
THIS TOPIC HAS BEEN SOLVED!!!
It turns out to be an issue with an application called Gold mine and the built in GM link file that is associated with it. Here is how it was fixed... - Look for the templates that MS Word is using: template.dot, GMLINK.dot See Tools/Templates and Add-ins€¦ - On Templates tab, it had more than 1 GMLINK.dot file selected. - Get path of them (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP). - Remove the unneeded .dot files, leave only GMLINK.dot Restart Word and you are good to go =) |
