Default Saved files are marked as read only

In Word X for Mac when a files is saved it automatically saves as read only.
I have been unable to find where to change this setting. Anyone able to give
me a hand. It would be greatly appreciated.

Are you saving to a CDRW? CD files are read-only by design.

Hello-

You stumbled into the WinWord ng, but I happen work both sides of the
aisle... although I never spent much time with X. However, AFAIK, there is no
specific setting in _any_ version of Word to automatically save as read only.
That is a file-specific attribute unless something has been done to force it
(such as a special macro for saving).

Are you, perhaps, dealing with files on a CD? If so, ALWAYS copy to a hard
drive & work with that copy. Once you save your changes you can copy back to
other media if necessary.

If that isn't the problem, post your question he
