I have the same problem as a number of posters. I need to create a TOC,
TOTables and TOFigures composed of 30/40 chapters created by multiple authors and of at least 1500+ in total size. Simply cutting and pasting did not work as my computer couldn't handle the document size. I tried the Master doc option, and whether it was the corruption issue or not, I could not adequately control the heading numbers. Especially since it is necessary to use a 5.0.1 series of numbers which are not standard. I found the explanation on using the RD method and attempted it. I created a new doucment using the title, signature, and TOC pages only. I got the ALT/F9 text to insert, then hit CTL/F9. However, I cannot type anything in the brackets after hitting CTL/F9. I type in the RD and it all disappears, including the brackets. I'm stuck there. The version of Word is Office Professional 2003. |

Hi MoGH,
The disappearing act is probably due to the fact that RD fields are hidden. Have you tried updating the ToC or doing a print preview after inserting the RD field (with the path to the source document)? I tried this suggestion and while it didn't solve the overall problem, it did
allow me to see the {RD \f} field and type in to it. So I was able to create the TOC. "macropod" wrote: Hi MoGH, The disappearing act is probably due to the fact that RD fields are hidden.
