Default office temp files

I worked for a quite long time on a word document (word2000 win XP pro sp 1).
I hit the save icon frequently but the changes made to the document were lost
when opening the document after win restart. Could anyone tellme where office
stores temp files, i.e where I should start to look for possible temp files
where those changes still might be in. Needles to say I'd hate to lose 4
hours of work.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you by chance open this document from an email attachment? If so, it was
never more than temporary, and Word deletes all temporary files on closing.
You need to save the document to your documents folder first, then open it
and work on it.

Thank you Suzanne for you answer

I saved the document over an older version, but yes from a email attachment.
I fear that the old one was not actully overwritten by the new one. The
really strange thing is that when I closed word it did not ask me to save
changes so I naturally presumed that my last save was done correctly.
