Default Read Only

For some reason all of my documents in Word 2003, and those I download from
attachments, come up as Read Only. Could anyone advise me as to what I might
need to do to revert my version so that they do not come up automatically as
"read only". Many thanks

See the article "I keep getting files that I am working on locked for
editing. Word only allows me to open them read-only" at:

Could it be that the documents have at one time been saved to a CD?

Thanks for your help, but some of the email attachments are ones that I have
created and copied to myself for filing, so there must be something else
causing the problem.

Any assistance that you can give would be appreciated

Regards
