I am using headers and footers in my multi-page document. How do I get my
document to number its pages in each individual "Section" apart from the other sections? Some sections have Pages 1 0f 1. Others have 1 of many). I have used section breaks to separate the various sections of this manual. The headers for each section include the title according to the subject matter of that section, along with the page number and number of pages in that section - ie. Page 1 of 10, etc. I am using Word 2002. Thanks. |

Hi Paul,
I take it you want Page 'X of Y' numbering, with the 'X' to re-start at 1 for each Section the 'Y' to count of pages for that section only. To do this, select the header. Then, where you want the Page 'X of Y' numbering to appear: .. press Ctrl-F9 to create a field, which will be designated by a pair of field braces (i.e '{ }'), then type 'PAGE' between the braces (ie. {PAGE}) .. type ' of ' after the braces .. press Ctrl-F9, then type 'SECTIONPAGES' between the braces (ie. {SECTIONPAGES}) .. select both fields and press F9 to update. You should now see something like '1 of 2'. Now, if your document's section headers all have the 'Same as Previous' attribute selected, the page numbering scheme will appear throughout the document, but with the page numbers incrementing rather than re-setting at the start of each section. If not, you'll need to copy the fields you've just created to any unnumbered sections that you want to have numbered. Then, for each numbered section, you need to: .. select the 'X' portion of the Page 'X of Y' numbering .. use |Insert|Page Numbers|Format, then click 'Start at' and input '1', then click 'OK', 'OK'.
