I have a problem with a table of contents that I am trying to update. I did
not create document or the table of contents. I am only trying to find a way for the TOC to update for another co-worker. This co-worker has made additions to the document and the headings need to be added to the TOC. I have tried every suggestion in this discussion group, I have tried MS Help, I also have a MS Word 2003 book, but I can't seem to get the TOC to update. I have to hit the F9 button because when I click the "update TOC" button on my outlining toolbar, it says that the current document does not contain a TOC. The same message appears when I click the "go to TOC" button. I am not sure if this will help, but the field code for the TOC is {TOC \f \h \z }. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Julie |

Based on the codes I think this may have been generated as a Table of
*Figures* - which technically falls within the TOC field umbrella, but isn't a TOC. That may be why the button & the Go To aren't recognizing it as such but F9 updates it. I would suggest that you right-click in the table & select Update Field if you just want to update it without updating any other fields or continue to use F9. -- HTH |:) Bob Jones [MVP] Office:Mac "Julie" wrote in message ...
