Default Microsoft Word 2000 will not open.

When clicking on the Word icon or going into My Documents and clicking on a
particular saved document, the Microsoft Word version pops up and then
freezes. I cannnot open anything containing Word. Others such as Excel
documents open just fine. Thanks for any help out there!!!!!!!!!!
