I have a 30 odd pages Word document which refuses to open beyond page 18. I'm
using the mouse and down arrow keyboard to scroll, but it won't budge beyond
page 18.

Can you use the GoTo functioj to page 29 or 30? Does CTRL+End take you to
page 18 or 30?
What have you got on page 18 or 19? Is there an image or a table that could
be corruting the document?
Once I had a document that would not go past (either viewing or printing) a
certain page. After some investigation I found that some words in the middle
of a paragraph on the "last" page had something strange about them. Clearing
format (ie CTRL+Q or CTRL+Spacebar) did not help. In the end I copied the
offending paragraph unformatted into a new temp document. Deleted the
original paragraph. Saved, closed Word. Opened Word, opened documents and
pasted back the text unformatted. And voila all was well.
